House Committee on Agriculture

The Brief

The Committee needed a site that would allow them to communicate with the public about agriculture bills being considered in Congress. Secondarily, the site had to convey information about the composition of the committee, its non-legislative work, past legislation, and a general history of the Agriculture committee in Congress.

My Role

I worked directly with committee staff members to develop an all-new information architecture and design of the site, with a focus on usability, readability and accessibility. Additionally, we worked to ensure the site could be updated easily by the oft-changing committee staff without significant training time.

The Site

The Agriculture Committee site won a Silver Mouse Award in 2006 from the Congressional Management Foundation. Additionally, the site has been in use for 5 years now, and the design was kept through a change in party leadership in the House in 2007—an unusual occurrence with Congressional committees.
